Make a list of everything you need to pack

I will always and forever stand by lists! It helps you visualize and make sure you have all that you need.

Review airline policies

This includes baggage policies. It's the best way to avoid surprise fees at the airport.

Travel sized toiletries

TSA allows liquids up to 3.3oz. However, certain countries limit the amount of items that are within that range. Double check the policies for the country you're traveling to.

Snacks

Carrying snacks is always a good idea when traveling. You never know when hunger might strike and it's a great cost efficient way to be prepared. We all know how pricey airports can be.

Always carry essentials and an outfit in your carry on

It is wise to have a change of clothes and even a tooth brush and toothpaste in your carry-on should in case anything happens to your checked bags.

Over pack, it's why suitcases have wheels!

So this is one of those statements that different travelers will have different opinions on. Here's how I feel about it, only over pack if you're going to be away for a week plus and you're checking in your suitcase. Over pack doesn't mean go over weight now. Overweight luggage carries an additional charge. And on the other end of the spectrum, if you're going away for a short trip, only take the essentials.

Pack outfits by the day

It helps you eliminate excess clothing. Also pack items that you can mixed match and they go well with each other. This is an ideal way pack when you're only bringing a carry-on.

Carry extra totes/plastic bags

It's always good to have some extra bags just in case to put dirty clothes in or if needed for other reasons.

Bring flip flops for the shower

I like to air on the side of caution (that might just be the germaphobe) but it doesn’t hurt.
